Special Education for the needy and marginalized:

NRI works with various populations like deaf, speech impaired, developmentally disabled and behaviorally challenged children, adults and elderly and their family members. Our agency provides them special education in the context of their individual disability. The purpose of this education is making them as independent as possible so that can lead a meaningful life in the community without being having a stigma of disability. Our agency helps them to receive hearing aid, speech therapy, behavioral therapy, and vocational guidance to earn an adequate living. We do evaluate their weaknesses and strengths based on their developmental, social, emotional, physical, vocational and housing needs. We help in coordination their care and help them and their families to find solutions to their problems in collaboration with other professionals, agencies, individuals and family members. NRI’s special education agenda also focuses on specified issues such as gender discrimination in the preparation for their proper social, emotional and functional rehabilitation in living their lives to the optimum level of their capacities.

We have gathered from our detailed survey that still today, in many parts of our Tri-City areas, children, adults, and elderly especially underprivileged do not have any facility or services available to them. Our team collaborates with prominent educational bodies, medical institutions, (Public and Private) like PGIMER, Chandigarh Medical College, various primary and high schools in the area and Rayat Bahra University to develop strategic measures to make meaningful contributions in their lives. We also collaborate with South Asian Behavioral Health and Training Foundation under the leadership of a well-known, Licensed Clinical Neuropsychologist in California, USA, Dr. Harmesh Kumar. He has provided services to needy, disabled populations over the last three decades after he settled in USA. He finished his post-doctoral training for three years under Dr. Ronald Ruff, a world renownedclinical Neuro-psychologist at University of California, San Francisco, USA after he completed his Ph.D. from PGIMER, Department of Neurosurgery under the mentorship of Prof. V. K. Kak, Dr. Dwarka Persad and Dr. Moudgil. Our major focus is to make them independent and functional by promoting their self-respect, dignity and independence.

Superior Health Clinics

We know how the inter-link between health and poverty has begun to get stronger with every passing day with governmental policies towards privation of health care and other services. During our journey of serving and facilitating the marginalized communities especially those with developmental disability, hearing or speech impaired or behaviorally challenged, there is no coordinated programs existed in the Tri-Cities areas. Unfortunately, a large part of the population becomes preys of significant health disparities. The poverty-stricken crowd needs us not only to create a meaning in their lives but also fulfilling our moral obligations to be useful instruments in the service of those who need us the most.

At this time, we are providing mobile teams to go into rural areas of Tri-Cities (Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula) to assess and provide them psycho-education, testing for their hearing loss, helping them to get affordable hearing aids, providing them speech therapy and behavioral therapeutic services.  However, our aim is to have our own mobile van to provide quality health care and medical facilities from medical professionals and go to those who need us the most. Hence, our Health Clinic program includes networking with reputed clinics across the Tri-Cities areas to deliver quality rehabilitation services, health screening, and therapies to the needy.

We are looking forward to expanding our network and services by collaborating with other medical bodies around the region. We heartily aim to march on, in the long-run, with our noble deed with your support helping people live a healthy, productiveand meaningful lives each day.

Superior Mobile Clinic

We feel blessed and excited that our mobile clinic is receiving a boost from Smart City Project of Chandigarh Administration to get a van as we have been using our private cars to conduct camps to asses those patients who are in need of these services. With our health needs survey records in the rural zones, we have found that the deprived generation of disabled lack those essential screening tools or even awareness of the available services in screening their hearing, speech, behavioral and other medical needs and the help they can get to make their lives more functional. We want to thank Chandigarh Administration to help us in getting the permanent van to make our mobile clinic a permanent asset to serve those who are unable to get public transportation.

We are consistently working as a family with all our power to upgrade and improve our existing program and attend to every individual in medical needs within our reach. We try to attend to patients in medical emergencies first and consistently circulate the facility after attending to critical patients. We are focusing on expanding our team of skilled and passionate volunteers to become a part of a more extensive health care network in the upcoming future.

Ongoing Health fairs – By National Rehabilitation institute

As a significant contributor in humanitarian services to the needy, we certainly want to put our soul in serving disabled community. We believe that health is one of the inevitable aspects of survival, disability and poverty act as a strict barrier to living a healthy, productive and meaningful life. Thus, well-organized health fairs are a significant part of our current undertakings.

The more we proceeded in the preparation and planning of National Rehabilitation health fairs, we got the opportunity to see through how the poverty-stricken young children, adults and elderly men and women with disability are deprived of even the basic awareness and screening health care tools to make their lives more functional, productive and meaningful.

The goal of the health fairs conducted by our team is to equip everyone in need with hearing aid, and other tools to make their lives more neaningful thus making the community they live in more vibrant without crimes. We coordinae with essential pharmaceuticals and medical devices to get help for those who need it the most but do not have the financial, social, emotional and other resources to reduce handicaps in their daily lives due to their disabilities. We are gratified to carry out this noble deed with our valued contributors across the continents. We encourage you to take one step ahead with us to secure a valuable resource to save a precious life from daily frustration and at times from ending their lives with suicides.
